Add-ons and more

New Book: Creating add-ons for Blender

Yeah, it's there! I am happy to announce my new, short-and-sweet, information packed book on creating add-ons for Blender.

It might be small, but it is beautifully formed :-) You might want to sample it (or buy of course) from the location below:

A sample of the book is also available as pdf

  1. I would love to get this book in its raw form. In .odt format maybe? I can only pay you with bitcoin though, but I'll pay you more than your average price. What do you say?

    1. Sorry but I only distribute using established channels and I certainly will not make the source of the book available. The book is accompanied by a GitHub repository with the examples, so there is no need to cut and paste.

  2. Would really like to see this on Kindle, even at a higher price. Don't really want to create yet another login on a site just to buy one item.

Any chance of a Kindle version??

    Looks great though, thanks.

    1. I am looking in additional distribution options as well at the moment, but the book is not only available at Smashwords but also on barnes and noble, kobo, and (i didn't check yet but should be) on Apple iBooks.

I will almost certainly not distribute it via Amazon because it might restrict other distribution channels but although .epub is the most common format I understand the need for .mobi (or .azw) or even better .pdf . Technically is no issue to convert from .epub to .mobi or .pdf (Calibre does a nice job) but the current distribution channel offers some challenges.

As soon as I know more I'll post about it.

  3. Hi, how many pages have the book? are there examples of addons? after you finish this book can you create your own addons?
    Thanks for the answer.

    1. hi Luis,

the number of pages is not a fixed number with e-books of course but the pdf version has about 55 pages of 'real'content (i.e. not counting intro, table of contents etc). Have a look a the example .pdf provided in the link in the article to get an idea.
Even though the book is small, it covers most important aspects of creating an add-on and as you might tell from the table of contents (also part of the sample) if you follow the book you will actually create real (but simple) add-ons. I don't cover drivers or the game engine though.
